Our story

Born from lived experience. Built for the community.

Freedom Fighters Housing was founded on a simple belief: that every person who has been through the system deserves a real shot at a new life — not just a second chance, but a full one.

Our mission

We exist to bridge the gap between incarceration and stability. Through safe housing, peer mentorship, and connection to resources, we walk alongside returning citizens in Rochester, NY as they rebuild their lives — with dignity, purpose, and community at the center of everything we do.

Where we come from

Freedom Fighters Housing grew out of a recognition that Rochester's returning citizens were falling through the cracks. The transition from incarceration to stable, independent living is one of the hardest journeys a person can face — and most people face it without adequate support.

We started with housing because we know that without a safe place to sleep, nothing else is possible. From that foundation, we've built a network of peer support, resource connections, and community that gives people the tools they need to not just survive — but thrive.

Our name says it all. The people we serve aren't victims — they're fighters. And we're here to fight alongside them.

What we stand for

Dignity

Every person who walks through our doors is treated with unconditional respect. Your past does not define your worth.

Community

No one heals alone. We build genuine relationships — between residents, mentors, and the broader Rochester community.

Accountability

We hold ourselves to the same standard we encourage in others — showing up, following through, and doing the work.

Hope

We believe in the possibility of transformation — not as an exception, but as the rule. Every person has the capacity to build something new.
